You FAILED on the TAIL?! Haha, the reason I clicked this picture was because of the tail! Now that I see it up close I do realize that it's sure a different style than the rest of the piece, without the line drawing or the darkness that you used around the head. But I believe it still resides in gnarly awesomeness. I just can't believe the amazing job you did with the lighting and color. I don't know how to talk about this because I don't know anything about color because frankly color scares the living daylights out of me, but again, jeez, the entire picture just wallows in brilliance. Something about the vibrant colors you use and it's like you actually use different hues and such to do the highlights and shading, instead of just washing the color out or going over it in grey. The result is an amazing and unreal amount of depth. My eyes are especially attracted to the ears - their textue is unbelievable. I could go on likewise about the face, it's so well-defined and chisled! And the expression is lovely, the eyes add so much to the mood of the picture, as does that yellow feather up there. Haha.
All in all, most triumphant. I totally admire your use of colors and your ability to texturize.

YAY! Thanks, your so observant! :D
Okay, so when i did the hair and the fur (photoshop), i started of with a dark colour, then i went lighter and up the colour spectrum (red-orange)on top in the direction of the light source. the tail and the base of the picture was in colouring pencil, i just used the impression tool over the tail in various places.
Umm you can change mono-chrome pics to colour by painting flat colours in a layer underneath and set the ones above to multiply mode and use a colour dodge tool where the light hits on the colour, and voila, but the monochrome has to be shaded in greys for that to work...
um, did you understand any of that? ^^;

I followed you up to when you started talking about changing mono-chrome pics to color by painting flat colors etc. I read it like three times but I'm just not experienced enough in computor coloring/art in general to be able to understand that all. But thanks for the thought anyways! What you said at the beginning of your reply about starting with a dark color and then going lighter and so on, that at least made sense.
